Monday, September 5, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM (BST)
London, United Kingdom
The purpose of the grouping is to provide a forum, with some resource for coordinating activity, to discuss research challenges in medical and biomedical imaging and to connect the individual centres and departmental groupings involved in methodological imaging research across UCL.
UCL has significant activity in medical and biomedical imaging and several research groups who are international Centres of Excellence in their own right, yet many are not aware of the very wide range of activity at UCL: from clinical medicine to methods in physics and computation, microscopic imaging, biophotonics and nanotechnology.
We propose a forum for helping to define research challenges, coordinate doctoral training programmes, coordinate large scale strategic bids for funds in areas where imaging has a key role, provide a forum for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to share expertise, encourage development of common software tools and methods, provide a link with national initatives such as the Francis Crick Institute and international initatives.
The meeting will comprise a series of talks from leading UCL imaging scientists, ample time for discussion and a set of posters on recent work across the disciplines. Speakers will include Mark Lythgoe (Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging), John Ashburner (Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging), Xavier Golay (Magnetic Resonance Physics and Translational Neuroscience), Nick Fox (Dementia Research Centre), Jonathan Ashmore (Neuroscience, Physiology & Pharmacology and Ear Institute) and David Hawkes (Centre for Medical Image Computing).
Registration from 13:30, talks and discussion start at 14:00, refreshments and networking from 17:30.
